Three shark attacks in two days have led to the closure of Surf, Minuteman and Wall beaches in Santa Barbara County.
On Thursday, an 8 to 10 foot shark attacked a surfer near Vandenberg Air Force Base. The shark scraped the surfboard and lacerated the surfer’s knee. It is suspected the shark was a great white, according to the Telegraph.
At about 11 a.m. on Friday, an approximately 18-foot great white shark attacked the bottom of a kayak carrying a fisherman in waters outside Vandenberg Air Force Base. Three kayakers were rescued by a pair of brothers fishing nearby.
Several other kayakers elected to continue fishing. However, around 2 p.m., a shark attacked a kayak manned by Ryan Howell of Central Coast Kayak Fishing in the same area, according to KCOY.
Howell jumped from his damage kayak into another kayak and called for help. The brothers, Lou and Charles Christman, then performed another rescue.
