The Pismo Beach city clerk will swear in a longtime member of the police department as its new chief Tuesday evening.

Commander Jake Miller, a 20-year veteran of the Pismo Beach force, is slated to take over as the next police chief. Miller’s swearing in is the first item on the agenda at the Pismo Beach council meeting Tuesday, which begins at 5:30 p.m.

Miller will replace retiring chief Jeff Norton, whom he served as second in command. City manager Jim Lewis selected Miller to fill Norton’s role.

With the appointment to chief, Miller will have risen through every rank in the police department.

His salary will fall in the range of approximately $129,000 to $157,000.
