A truck crashed into a female National Guard soldier at Camp San Luis Obispo on Monday and then rolled over her lower body.
The 31-year-old soldier suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a Fresno hospital for emergency surgery. Her current condition is unclear.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. Monday while truck driving training drills were taking place at Camp San Luis. Prior to the collision, the female soldier was squatting in front of a truck’s right tire, and the driver of the vehicle did not see her, according the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The injured soldier is a member of the 756th Transportation Company, which uses heavy-duty trucks to transport equipment. She is a resident of the Southern California community of Alta Loma.
