Residents may now apply to keep or raise goats on private property for a $300 fee. Individuals may also parade goats through public parks, so long as the animals are kept on leashes.

City staff crafted the ordinance after Pismo Beach resident and YouTube star Dana McGregor began raising goats at home and filming videos of the them surfing. No regulation currently prohibits goats from wandering the beach.

The new ordinance will require residents to inform their neighbors prior to keeping goats around the house.
