The Grover Beach City Council declared a Stage 3 drought Monday evening.
The drought declaration will impose numerous water restrictions on residents and businesses in the city. Residents may no longer wash cars, boats, sidewalks or driveways unless they use a hose with a quick acting shutoff nozzle.
Other mandates include restrictions on watering landscaping and refilling pools. Restaurants may no longer serve glasses of water unless customers request them.
Under the Stage 3 declaration, water users must reduce their consumption by 10 percent. Failure to do so could result in doubling or tripling of water rates or even disconnection from water service.
Grover Beach has received less than 65 percent of its benchmark rainfall for each of the past three years. Its water supply consists of a Lopez Lake allotment and groundwater.
