A 32-year-old Kerman man died Sunday evening after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a guard rail on Highway 101 near Tassajara Creek Road just south of Santa Margarita at about 7 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The biker was headed northbound at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle drifted from the fast lane, across the slow lane and off the road. He attempted to get back on the road, hit the fast lane guardrail, was ejected from his bike and landed down the slope in the center median.

His bike continued on without him for about 100 yards.

He was transported to Sierra Vista Medical Center in San Luis Obispo where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The case is still under investigation,” said Joe Vega, CHP public relations officer. “We haven’t determined the cause yet.”
