Amid unrest in the Middle East, the average price for gas surged in San Luis Obispo County last week jumping 12 cents to $6.19 a gallon, according to AAA. At $5.99, the average price for a gallon of gas is currently 20 cents less in Santa Barbara County.

“Volatility in the Strait of Hormuz has pushed crude oil back in the $100 per barrel range for the first time since July,” according to AAA. “Pump prices are currently comparable to early June.”

In California, the average price for a gallon of gas rose 14 cents to $5.98 last week. Nationally, gas prices jumped 17 cents to $4.31 a gallon.

SLO County currently has the seventh highest price for gas in the state. Listing the highest average price, Mono County’s price for a gallon of regular gasoline this week is $7.05. Sutter County boasts the lowest average cost at $5.69 a gallon.
