San Rafael has a new ordinance prohibiting smoking in all homes that share walls with other residences. [RT]
The San Rafael City Council adopted the ordinance last month, and it took effect November 14. The ordinance bans smoking in apartments, condominiums, co-ops and multi-family residences that hold three units or more.
The ordinance applies to owners, as well as to renters.
Former San Rafael councilman and current Assemblyman Marc Levine introduced a bill earlier this year that would ban smoking in apartments, condominiums and multi-unit dwellings statewide.
Assembly Bill 746 stalled in committee.
On January 1, the San Luis Obispo Housing Authority banned tobacco inside all of its residences.
