A man who falsely claimed to be an audiologist pleaded no contest Monday to felony charges of grand theft and insurance fraud. [KSBY]
Aaron Marquis, 46, faces up to a year in jail and five years probation. His wife and office manager, Anja Marquis, pleaded guilty to theft and insurance fraud, as well, and faces five years probation.
Last week, each entered not guilty pleas.
Prosecutors accused Aaron Marquis of falsely advertising himself as an audiologist with a Ph.D. despite only having a high school diploma. Anja Marquis allegedly billed insurance companies for audiology tests he conducted.
The couple operated the Advanced Hearing Aid Center in San Luis Obispo. As part of their plea deal, they are no longer allowed to bill insurance companies for any type of business.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 25. The couple remains in jail on $1 million bail.
