The Grover Beach City Council appointed San Luis Obispo County engineer and former city planning commissioner Glenn Marshall to the council Monday to fill the seat vacated by Phyllis Molnar.
The council saved approximately $30,000 by making the appointment instead of holding a special election.
Molnar resigned from the council midterm at the end of January because she moved her residence outside the city limits. The former councilwoman unsuccessfully ran for mayor last November despite already having plans to move outside the city, Molnar’s grant deed filed in the county clerk’s office shows.
The San Luis Obispo City Council, too, has a vacancy it must fill, but it is choosing to hold a special election on June 18 to replace Andrew Carter, who resigned last week to become city administrator of Guadalupe.
