Alex Maier was driving a Ford F-150 truck southbound on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo around 8:30 p.m. Monday when his pickup collided with another car on the Santa Rosa off-ramp. Maier’s vehicle spun around on the off-ramp, crashing into a highway sign and launching over the guardrail.
Emergency crews extracted Maier from the truck and rushed him to a local hospital. The driver of the other vehicle only suffered minor injuries.
Maier is a senior at San Luis Obispo High School, where he is a member of the soccer team. The soccer team was schedule to play Mission Prep Tuesday evening, but officials postponed the game. Maier recently scored a game winning goal for his squad.
